The port city of Cape Town derived its name from the term "Cape of Good Hope". Around this cape (south of the city), Bartholomew Diaz and other European seafarers travelled from Europe to the East. All on board those early sailing vessels looked forward to seeing Table Mountain -- like an inn that promised hospitality and prosperity. The presence of Table Mountain in all its splendour still evokes this kind of welcoming emotion.
Cape Town is steeped in a rich history and is a cultural melting pot. Its diverse and vibrant character is derived from the "Koi koin" and other African tribes, plus Indonesian, French, Dutch, British and German settlers.
Bustling and beautiful, the cosmopolitan nature of Cape Town ensures that one never tires of the multitude of experiences this area has to offer. Cape Town boasts of its pristine coastlines and a magnificent countryside containing unique flora and fauna. The city is also noted for its many shopping malls, restaurants, jazz cafes, fleamarkets, and theatres. Cape Town appeals to both the nature-lover and the urban explorer!
